Peek-A-Boo Preschool
So in an earlier post (much earlier, think August) I posted about Connor starting preschool. I have loved this preschool. Miss Sandy is so awesome. Not only is she a great teacher, she has become a great friend. So, I found out a couple months ago that she is going to be moving!!! I am really sad about this. See her daughter, Amy is one of my very best amigas and I don't think she will come to visit anymore if her parents don't live here. I am very sad about that, but I do have a silver lining. Sandy offered for me to take over her preschool! I am so excited, this has been a dream of mine for several years now. I am taking over the name, Peek A Boo, and I will teach in the day care in a different room. I have gone to a few preschools to see how they do things and have been looking on the internet for activities. It is going to be so fun! I already have my classes filling up, so I feel confident it will be successful. So my question for you is this, what do you look for in a preschool? What would be the determining factor for sending (or not sending) your child to a certain school? I really want to be successful with this and I want to have a good reputation, any input would be great!

I had an appointment with a neonatal specialist at Utah Valley today. I am only 16 weeks, but they wanted to have a look at the baby since ...

My oldest went to preschool, but none of the others have. They probably won't, either. I don't have any problems with preschool, but there is only one out here in the sticks. There is an insane waiting list, and people sign their kids up for the three year old class when they are only a few months old! It is also like $80 a month, so it just isn't worth it to me. I am a stay at home mom, so I can teach them what they need to know before Kindergarten. To help with social interaction, we have a playgroup. If your preschool was a bit closer, I'd for sure sign up my little man!
Oh, and as far as your bedwetter goes, I wouldn't worry about it yet. The doctor told me that bladder control isn't fully developed until they are 5. My problem child is 6 1/2, and the doc still isn't too worried. He said it is a hereditary problem, and that he will eventually grow out of it. I am just sick of washing sheets, which is why I asked what worked for other moms.
Do I get some sort of medal for the longest comments ever?!
That is awesome Sarah... I really love the power that CarolAnn has over the kids she does it 4 days a week which i think helps then get into a rutine instead of everyother day i love that she does 4 days a week. She also test them all the time on how they are doing and send progress notes she has a calander of everyday of the week she sends home with what is going on for the month. she is very organized and all 3 of my kids have gone there. LOVE HER
Congrats Sarah!! You will do great! I am not really sure what to look for in a pre-school, because I haven't had to think about it yet. I know that I would be looking for ones that are doing a variety of activities not spending the whole time playing with toys. And....a clean one of course!!
One of my favorite things about trey's preschool is that they get to have gymnastics, karate and swimming every month, so a variety of activities is nice. I also like that they have the handy helper. every kid is assigned a day where they get to bring something for show and tell and they bring treats for everyone. they also get to help the teacher out that day. the kids in trey's preschool class love it. anyway hope these ideas help. you're going to be awesome! congrats!!
WOW! That is so exciting, congratulations!
I so wish that we lived closer..I would definately sign Spencer up!
I look at the ratio of kids per adult and if there are a lot of activities. We had a bad experience with Lexi having a "pretend seatbelt" on a fieldtrip when she was in preschool. Also it seemed like I was paying $60 a month for her to color a picture that the lady printed off the internet...
Peek A Boo is a really cute name! Good Luck!
I love Gwen's preschool teacher because she is sweet and patient. I love that it isn't too expensive, only $45 a month. They go on field trips and Gwen loves it. My most favorite thing though is that she isn't just playing...she is learning the things that I haven't had the patience to teach her. She can count to 50 now and when I was the one teaching, she could count to 20 but skipped a few important ones on the way. Preschool is just awesome because they learn things that their parents might not think of. Her teacher makes things with them too. When they were on the letter A and learned about things that start with A they actually made applesauce. She does stuff like that a lot where the kids get to see how things work and are made. I am so excited for you! You will be a good teacher. I have never met anyone who studied as much as you...
That is awesome! I love teaching preschool. That age group is so much fun. The kids will just love you. My advice is find things that they enjoy and turn it into learning and they will love it. Its got to be fun for them, they are so little and if its all work and no play its not fun. Good luck! If you need anything let me know I have been teaching a year so I have a lot of ideas. Oh and the first year is the hardest I thought the first half of the year was until I caught on to what they liked and how to do things. Now its a breeze.
Good for you! You will do great! I will have to remember to book me a spot when Carter is old enough!!!
Hooray I can see your blog!!! :) You already know all my thoughts and suggestions on this one...I think you will be an AMAZING preschool teacher. You have a way with kids and you are so creative in your activities I can't wait for Landon to be old enough to come! Are you sure you don't just want him this next year?? He is awesome at being nice to other kids!! :)
My biggest piece of advice is start planning now. Even if it is just the weekly theme. I think planning is the best thing. But still being flexible. If you have a plan in mind though, when you see something you can figure how and where to work it in. I have a few things, not many, if you are interested in coming to look at. If you ever need help, I'd love to help you. I heard you are doing a summer program too.
Sarah, you will be so awesome, the kids are definitely going to love you!!! One thing that Sadie learns at her preschool that is unique from other preschools is Sign Language. She does attend a preschool that includes some special needs kids, so Sign is very important there but she loves coming home and showing us the new sign she learned. They watch a little video at the end of their day called Signing Times. Anyway, I know you'll do great, I wish we were still there so I could bring McCrae to you!!
I'd like a preschool that prepares Logan for kindergarten with education in addition to fun activities. You'll have to post more info about your preschool when you get it up & going!
Sarah are you so proud of me I finally got on your blog! I noticed I am only mentioned once when you speak of your kids I should be mentioned often I am their grandma! You're blog is great and you will be an awesome pre-school teacher look how smart your kids are already! I love you! Mom
Good for you! Corban is in preschool out here and they are really good. I think it's nice that they send a calendar home with me every month telling me what they will be doing everyday. Corban loves it because sometimes I tell him he has "homework" when I know they will be doing a certain nursery rhyme that day. They do some really cute things. If you want I can email you pics of his crafts and activities they do. Just let me know. :)
Yea!! so fun for you!! The biggest thing I look for in a preschool is is weather or not the teacher is willing to trade dance lesson for her daughter with preschool for my daughter.:) You will be so great I'm so glad for you!!
